Ok folks I'm in need of some help. I have purchased everthing to install the cb on my Classic and I'm stuck...I have the service manual and have read all the instructions...I'm hoping someone here has done it and can help me out...I'd even be happy with some assistance from Choochoo...
Here's the catch...the wire harness that comes from the tank console (where the headset or mic for the CB plugs in) is supposed to plug into the Intercom connection of the overlay harness that connects the CB to the radio in the fairing...only one slight problem...it won't reach...the overlay harness is not nearly long enough to reach down through the fairing through the wire chase to the back of the tank...nor is the wire from the console long enough to reach back up into the fairing...
I would appreciate any help that can be offered before I have to break down and take it to the Stealer to fix a problem that I can't understand why it's occuring.
Ah may be wrong, but ah THINK that ya don't hook it up thar - it interfaces within the radio harness (already wired)....are you on the step that says to connect a section of the harness to another (that doesn't apply to your model), and in the next step talks about connecting that intercom connection?
Problem is I need to connect the plug off of the tank console to something...and there is nothing to connect it to...without it connected...I will only hear not be able to talk...makes it rather difficult to talk with my tailgunner...
Okay...bear in mind that ah've got a UC, so we have somewhat different bikes here. Yers doesn't currently have an intercom system on it? Or radio? Ah jest installed the bluetooth phone on mah '07 UC, an' the instructions said ta connect that same intercom plug....but it didn't REALLY mean it - typo on HD's part. Apparently there'san existing connection in the radio system that interlaces the phone into the intercom, so the plug ain't needed.....

If you will be able to hear.. and its connected..why can't you talk? the plug on the console is to connect your headset or mic into.. or are you talking about the "underside" of the console?
Yeah - he's talkin' 'bout the connection underneath. That's the problem ah'm havin' here - with me havin' the UC, ah'm not real sure jest whar our harnesses are different....
I seem to be missing the connection on the main harness that would then connect to the plug off of the console. There is nothing to connect the plug that is attached to the console to.
that's what I was thinking...splicing in a bunch of wire...or getting a pull plug set and making an adapter that would reach from inside the fairing down to the seat so i can plug in.
Blue--It would seem extremely likely that you either do not have all of the wiring harnesses that you need (most likely) or installed the correct harnesses incorrectly (less likely). My good friend did the same installation (CB/Intercom, rear speakers, new tank console, new left handlebar switches, etc.) on his '06 EG Classic and there is no splicing involved.
I am likely wrong, but if you have the opportunity, stop the installation, go to the HD store and look at the 2006 HD Touring parts book--it will show the electrical harnesses on the '06 EG's, including the Ultra harnesses which is what you are replicating.
Your SM should show all of the connectors, including the CB/Intercom/console connections and where they are located--this would also be a good source of information to see that you have all the correct harnesses, as would the wiring diagrams in the SM, obviously.
IMO, you will be making a HUGE mistake if you think you need to splice ANYTHING to get the HD CB/Intercom to work--HD accessories installed on their intended bikes don't require splicing when installed per HD's directions.
