S&S 124 kit vs Fuel Moto 124 kit....Help me decide
#21
I’m planning on doing a 124 kit next year too, probably going to go with FM. My brother loves his 107, bob steered us in the right direction when picking parts and when they sent us the wrong parts they over nighted the correct ones. FM seems to engineer their engine combos for a really broad usable torque curve, where S&S’s are more of a hot rod drag race combo. Both are awesome companies but It’ll be FM for me.
Power band kicks in at about 3200 RPM and then hold on.
My rear tire hates me. In fact, my AE is worn on the sides more the center from blasting out of turns.

I ended up doing the S&S and I'm getting 129/150 from it. It's insane. The main reason I went with the S and S was that it came with additional upgrade parts that the FM did not and there was a sale on the S and S which tipped the scales. I like FM stuff and have their Road and Track 2-1 on the bike.

Which cam did you get with your kit?

I’d love to see your dyno graph...I’m leaning towards S&S now too. It is a lot better value when you buy it as a kit. I’m running a D&D billet cat. The fuel moto torque curve looks killer but I’ve always been a fan of S&S stuff and the cylinders having that cool little S&S logo on em would be really cool to have on my bike, and that 550 cam just sounds nasty. I may do the 124 S&S kit this year, then do the ported heads and throttle body the following year so I have something to do to it in the future and split the cost of the build up a bit so The wife doesn’t get Too pissed 😂

i'm in the market too for a big bore kit. i've spoken to a few local folks and it seems to me- that for the real world- your choice in tuner/support is a lot more important than whether you're getting the parts from S&S or FuelMoto, or SE, or Feuling and S&S, or Revolution and Woods or whatever combo you pick, All of these kits if tuned properly seem to be making monster numbers....most available exhausts seem to kill low end torque though and most folks i've spoken too have stressed that.
in my head- i'm never in the wrong gear- i love to ring out the engine and shift at redline etc. etc. but the reality is that that probably means i spend time above 4800 rpm 5% of the time as opossed to normal people who spend 0-1% of the time there. the fact of the matter is that what a bike does at 3,000rpm is most likely more important than a 5hp difference at 5500rpm.
right now- i'm hoping Gene Thomason can fit me in soon to come up with a plan for my Street Bob. I'm not sure what we're going to end up doing- but the goal is to scare my sport bike buddies with how fast this antique looking bike is!

I am not sure how the M8 124s are. I have the 124 in my 09 streetglide, with 50K miles. it doesn't like riding under 80 mph. most the miles are 80mph and up. and I don't ride it easy at all, broke the aim with stock clutch basket. all good since the evolution clutch, no other issues. uses oil but not sure what doesn't when you turn 4k rpms for extended periods of time
