My son totalled his bike over the weekend, the engine trans are undamaged. He's about to make an insurance claim today but I was wondering if parting it out would be beneficial? Frame is bent, bags are gone and fairing is torn. I have to believe the wheels, brake, wiring, motor ect ect are worth some money but not sure how much.
he's considering building a 124" monster out of the wrecked bike and swapping it into his new bike he buys. Worth it or not?

Any good chrome parts? or did he have the stock/added black parts? Im looking for chrome stuff like handlebar clamshells and clutch and brake controls.

ugh, but yeah he survived! huge fear of mine..got my son started on dirt bikes early, then we raced vintage motocross together for several years and had the time of our lives..now he's 23 on his own and wants a road bike..I've been a bad influence I guess! but the road riding scares the living $#@% of me as he's my only child

Broken nose, torn knee with 10 stitches and road rash. Running the floorboards scraping around a sharp corner and then went even deeper into the turn, hisided the bike. Lessons you only need to learn once.
He did have a TH and a TM tuner on it with a Roland Sands intake. Everything on that side of the bike was ripped to shreds. The Tuner is matted to that motor but I told him top call TM and give them the insurance report and he can probably get it refreshed for a new bike.

Ask the insurance company what buy-back is. Then you'll have to determine if there's enough value there to make it reasonable. Aftermarket covers, brake parts, stereo parts, and undamaged small parts are usually good for sale. Also need to factor in if he had a loan and gap insurance. Complete engine and ECM are a lot of money. He might have to part it out just to break even. Just remember there are a lot of small accidents that don't get turned into insurance and guys are looking at eBay right now to find a tail light, head light, this part, and that part. to fix their bike on the cheap.
