How does HD insurance compare with other models?

How does HD insurance compare with other models?
I am waiting to get a settlement claim on the bike I crashed.
In the meantime, am considering a HD and was wondering, when compared to other bikes, say Japanese or BMW, is the insurance relatively lower or not much in it?
I ask because my insurance rate will likely rocket up due to the crash.
Looking at a Sportster 1200 48 at about 10K - say compared to a Honda CB 1000 or a BMW F850.
The HD seems a lot down on power but the CC is high so not sure what to make of it.
Thanks.

The HD insurance in the UK is run through Carole Nash. My experience with them has been good over the years.
My insurance (one years NCB due to a break) went from about £200 for a ten year old Pan to just under £500 for a new M8 softail worth 3 times as much.
With insurance it's as much about cost of parts and likelihood of theft than it is about how fast will it go. Oh, and how likely you are to throw it up the road

Just did shopping for insurance for 98 ultra. HD insurance quotes on their site are pretty high. Getting full coverage for same price as HD liability -only from my agent. Think he said the outfit was Home Time. As for HD's costing more to insure, I think it's a value thing. More a scooter cost, the higher the coverage cost.

Not sure how it may differ outside the US.

Whereabouts in the UK are you out of interest?
H-D Insurance Services was bought by Carole Nash a couple of years ago so despite Carole Nash being a broker normally selling third party insurance it is them themselves that provide H-D Insurance Services cover. The H-D Insurance Services policy is a bells and whistles policy, you have no choice as to the extras you get, it comes as a package and is a great policy IMHO. Whilst certainly in the upper end of the insurance pricing game you can also add bikes to the policy and they do not have to be Harley-Davidsons and it works out cheaper than other multi bike policy providers for the addition of a second motorcycle. You invariably get what you pay for.
A word of caution. Carole Nash/Bennets/Adrian Flux etc. provide insurance by a company called Markerstudy they will undoubtedly be the cheapest. Read the reviews in the link below and you can see exactly what I mean, it makes for an interesting read. I have had personal experience with this company and they are to be avoided AT ALL COST. If you go through a broker ask who exactly the underwriters are of the policy and do some research first.
