Will be in Beartooth in July (Red Lodge, MT) first time, first rally.
Extra special to me, Mom will be there from MN, she informed me that cancer raised it's fugly head again and needs more surgery. So scrapped my plans for Sturgis.
Brother and cousin (both riders) will be there from MN and already have a brother and sister (non riders) that live there.
Anyone have any tips on what to do or not waste time on?
Are you going?
I live near Red Lodge. I would say that both Beartooth and Chief Joseph are on the must-do list. I did both last weekend. There is still some snow up on top, but it may be gone by mid month. Another good loop, more relaxed is one that would take you from Red Lodge through Luther and Roscoe to Absorkee and then on into Columbus. From there you can either stay on the old highway that stays closer to the river or get on the interstate back to Laurel where you head south again back to Red Lodge. Some gorgeous scenery along that route as well. No hairpins but lots of hills and sweepers.
Once you are over the Beartooth from Red Lodge you can drop down the Chief Joseph Highway into Cody. Visit the Buffalo Bill Museum. Or when you get across the Beartooth you can head into Cooke City. Neat little town. From there the entrance to Yellowstone is close by. I'll be in Cody on July 15th and Red Lodge on July 16th. Staying in Cooke City the night of the 16th. Then on down through Yellowstone to Jackson.
Hey CajunCowgirl, any major road construction on 14 or 14A between Sheridan and Cody? How about from Red Lodge to Cooke City? Thanks for the help and ride safe.

There is a bit between Sheridan and Cody, or there was when I was down there a couple weeks ago. There is a little up on top of the Beartooth too before you can turn off to Chief Joseph. They have a traffic light set up because it's one way traffic for a few miles. Wasn't really a big deal.
Thanks. We're loaded and ready to head that direction in the morning. Be coming over the Big Horns from Sheridan to Cody on Monday and over the Beartooth on Tuesday.
