I was wondering about this it was 82 today and it activated a block from my house at the light. Was getting ready to ask the dealer about it at my 1000 mile service. My book says nothing about outside temp being above 80. I Have an owners manual for a 13 and a 14 and the wording in both is identical It says it activates when engine temperature exceeds 284 F.
Where did u see or read this about the outside temp. I see nothing in the book?
There was another thread on here last September with people talking about the 14's dropping the rear cylinder at every stop light. Several guys said their dealers told them about the change on the 14's so it would drop the rear cylinder when the air temp is over 80. From my experience that is what it's doing.

I've read that too, air temp over 80 and the rear cylinder shuts down. I wonder if the bike's computer uses the temp display as it's guide, once the display reaches 80* the EITMS kicks in...
Simply roll the throttle off all the way when stopped. Hold for about 3 seconds. The cruise control indicator will do be orange to show it's off. Roll off again for about 3 seconds and it will turn green to show it came back on. Or something like that. I turned it off and on a couple times just to do it. Hasn't gotten over 69 here yet, so no idea what it sounds like yet when it kicks in. I may be wrong on the color of the crusie control indicator, but it is that icon that changes to let you know if you turned it off or on when rolling the throttle back all the way at a stop.
You can also change it somewhere in the setup on the infotainment system. I forget where off hand.

If you push the info button on the right control(back half puff the R turn signal) the screen will show air temp, oil pressure, and EITMS status. It will say disabled if turned off, enabled if turned on, and when it actually drops the rear cylinder it will say active.

Thank You, clearly they made a change that was not reflected in the owners manual.

Glad I was able to help. I think Harley was more concerned with advertising and selling the Rushmore bikes then they were about providing the correct information about the product to the buyer. They were not very forthcoming about some of the limitations of their Infotainment system; like the need to add a communications/intercom port to be able to take advantage of the voice recognition capabilities of the system. The parts catalogue contains many errors / questions as to what parts will fit such as the handheld microphone that no longer works on '14 models the same way it worked in previous years. And I foolishly expected the owner's manual to contain the correct information but it only contains misinformation about the workings of the EITMS. I don't feel it would be asking to much for the company to send out corrections/updates to the owners. Maybe it was printed before Harley decided to make a change to the EITMS for the '14 model. I think HD was / is chasing the $$$$ and I was foolish enough to open my wallet. Well so much for my rant and for the most part I am enjoying my FLHTK.

cool news there. I haven't ridden in over 80 temp yet since last winter so mines been normal. The cool air temp button is nice to see air temp outside while I'm riding so ill check it out when its engages. If it were me I might turn it off until the air temp gets over 90,,,,,, then after those kinda days are there for good engage it all the time of course. be interesting to see what it feels like to take off with only one cylinder till the system kicks the other in.
It is instantaneous. You can not feel it come back on. It's completely transparent. There is no need to disable it (unless you enjoy frying your crotch - LOL).
I don't think the 80 deg thing is completely correct as described. I believe the system gets "enabled" over 80 deg, but only becomes "active" under other heat conditions. I've noticed mine displaying both "enabled" and "disabled" with the system status button at various times. I've never gone into the settings and changed its status manually. I've only felt/heard the rear cylinder actually turn off two or three times since I've owned the bike. I only just read about the "active" status in this thread, so never checked what system status said under that condition. I was riding in 85 deg weather Sunday and never felt the system activate at stop lights all day.
These are just my uneducated observations and I may be completely wrong, so if you know better, please correct me (politely).
Went riding Saturday. Outside temp got up to 83. Ran into some stop and go traffic and at a couple red lights I noticed that the engine sounded different. Pushed the temp button and saw that the system said active. Did that a couple of times on the way to eat. On the way home checked it again but the temp said 78 and the system said enabled. Never felt or heard a difference on the way home. I will say that I couldn't tell that rear cycl was cut off when I would leave the red light, must cut back on really fast. Seemed to work pretty well.
