Default Yesterday's ride

Met up with what I thought was going to be a small group of riders yesterday in North Haledon.

There was ~20-25 bikes.

I was quickly reminded why I don't like riding in large packs of bikes.

IDIOTS.

We were leaving the first stop and were staging on the side of the street when all of a sudden this older guy on a Honda Rune pulls a holeshot within a few feet of the staged riders, leaving a 100+ foot burnout.

Oh it gets better.

We all make our way to Hamburg Turnpike heading to Pompton Lakes and:

A) the group is just riding way faster than we should have been. It just didn't make sense to me.

B) Some guy on a sport bike who was riding in the right lane (I was in the left lane) decides at 40-45mph he's going to pop wheelies. He did it multiple times. That guy was actually right around my age as well (41, give or take). I don't care what you do when you're on your own but when there are 20+ bikes and you're in the middle of it all popping wheelies, even the most skilled riders can lose control and go down and who knows who he could have taken with him. (Let's liken this scenario to Indian Larry. Skilled rider. Does a stunt he's done a 1000x's before, loses balance, goes down and dies.)

I decided while enjoying my 2nd cold one (and limit) at the 2nd stop that I was going to separate myself from the group and head on.

Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm getting too wishy-washy about riding in NJ.

ALL REASONS WHY I DON'T RIDE IN GROUPS! I don't know that it's particular to NJ but my love for the state died long ago!

Agree with the others..I normally ride alone as well, and periodically with a couple of friends that I trust...I try to stay away from the rest of them...unfortunately, we all seem to learn that lessen the hard way.

All depends on who your riding with. I've ridden countless times with packs of 10-60 riders. Grant it I didn't know each and every one of them but I also put it out there since I am the organizer that you can leave that BS back home cause this is just a cruise and if you wanna fly, then find others to ride with.

It's too bad we didn't hook up. Had a nice ride. Ate in Vernon, rode up to Dingmans Ferry to Side Street Tavern, continued through PA, back into Joisey to Fireman Dans in Sussex, back to WM to Old School, then down to the Mt. Rest then Big Johns....all in all a brisk day and a cool 130 miles.

Funny...they ended their ride at Big John's.

One of these days we'll meet up.
