Moving to PA, what do I need to know about inspection?
Look up McChesney motors (Bob) when you get settled. He's up near Clearview mall, off of 422. Best independent shop around. He's an older guy thats been around a long time. I recently moved up to Sarver, PA (Butler county) and everyone I've talked to says go to him. I only bought tires from him so far and I can't complain.
I've been told that Lojacks is a great place for motorcycle inspection, and we were customers there back in the 80s and 90s so I'll probably go there.
I'm back, but not set up LOL. Going to take awhile. I have some friends and family that I haven't even told yet because I don't want to have to explain that it will probably be a month or more before I can see them. Picked up my Jeep and Trans Am from my buddy's house on Rochester Rd (not sure if Mcandless or Franklin Park or what exact township). Currently staying in an airbnb while we await our trailer with our stuff to officially move in to the house.
I think classic is you get it inspected once and if it passes thats it. Emissions, post 1996 cars , (OBD 2) you cannot have a check engine light on. Cars, they can fail anything safety related, ball joints, tie rods, struts, shocks, cracked windshield, tires less than 2/32 on two adjacent treads etc. Thing in Pa is its not standard, one guy will fail your stone chipped windshield, and the guy down the street will pass it and sticker it. basically if it isn't a total POS you should be ok. Find a good private small shop where you can talk directly to the owner or mechanic, don't deal with chains shops they have inept counter people who will BS you and youll want to talk to the guy working on your car and they will try and prevent that. This is just my $.02
Enough about cars, Pa is good riding alot of two lane twisty hilly scenic routes, if you live here you are used to it,Pa sucks in other ways but for the scenery and riding, that isnt one of them, the cagers ruin it though but thats was always the case.

Took the T/A in for a rear main seal leak, and they found the oil pan gasket dripping, and more, and since she was in the shop anyway I asked the guy to see if he could see why the front end squeaked so badly. Basically everything was shot, so she now has new ball joints, tie rod ends, steering rack, and probably more. Drives like a brand new car, but does need an alignment. That's where I am, as well. I'll check them out. If I go to a shop in Allegheny, will they not do the emission because I'm in Butler? There's a shop that my dad went to for decades in Sharpsburg, and I might try them.

Rule of thumb is wherever your vehicle is registered at, those are the rules you follow. So if your registered in butler county, correct, you won’t need emissions on your vehicles. If you go to a shop in Allegheny county where they do require emissions, then they just omit that since you are registered in butler county. Also, if you’re under so many miles for the year, then I’m fairly certain emissions doesn’t apply no matter where you live. As for LoJack, I actually live 15 minutes from them. They are mainly off road stuff these days but my buddy had his Yamaha Stryker repaired there from an accident. I’m not sure if they will work in harleys though. For dealership support, there is Gatto Harley in New Kensington, Z&M Harley in Greensburg and 3 Rivers Harley in Shaler. I bought my bike used at Z&M and had all good experiences there. I use Gatto for parts since they’re closer to me. Have only had good experience there also. Never used 3 Rivers so I wouldn’t have any advice on them

From Greensburg, New Stanton, Youngwood area myself. Dont miss the weather, inspections, low pay, crappy roads, snow, ice, sleet, hail, salt on the roads...do still follow the Steelers and Penguins for sure! Been in AZ for 22 years now.
The Lojacks recommendation was only for inspection, so I don't think it will matter what brand. I'm familiar with Gatto's as my dad bought several bikes from them in the 90s. Do they still have the diner? I remember when George put that in. Also, I think 3 rivers in Shaler was Gattos for awhile, and before that it was Spirit and I bought my first HD there in '05. But the owner at the time got into legal trouble and lost the dealership. I'll check out Z&M though.
Check out New Castle Harley Davidson. Excellent service, and honest people, with reasonable prices! (for a dealership).
I will not take my business to another dealership after finding and purchasing a bike there. It is an hour away but well worth
the trip.
