Default Mt. Greylock

The road to the summit of Mt. Greylock, highest peak in MA, opened last Friday after being closed for a couple of years for reconstruction. We took a ride up there from CT on Monday, and found that the new road is nicely done, still narrow and twisty with a couple of hairpins, but with fresh, smooth pavement. And of course the approaches to the area, either via Routes 7, 8 or 9 are all excellent rides themselves. At the summit there was a separate parking area for bikes that did not charge the $2 parking fee levied on cars. The only downside was exiting the lot - it's a sharp turn to the right up a fairly steep slope with rutted pavement, an adventure riding two-up when there are numerous people on foot using the same space. Definitely worth checking out.

Had lunch at Pancho's, a pretty good Mexican restaurant/bar in Pittsfield that is worth checking out as well.
