Red Line 58204 Heavy ShockProof Gear Oil
I don't think the M8 trans are different than previous 6 speeds..FWIW...I do know the Harley 80W140 Heavy Duty Synthetic Gear Oil works fantastic in my M8, as well as the Primary
You can run anything you want and probably be ok. I just can't see spending that much for oil. I bought a case of Amsoil 20w50 mc oil last summer and paid about 10 0r 11 bucks a quart. I use that in the transmission. Been using 20w50 in the tranny of all my bikes over the last 2 decades. My 02 Mustang gt 5 sp called for 30wt motor oil. I think sometimes we over think this stuff. Use a JASO certified oil. The metrics use engine oil to lube their trannys.
Jim; It's good stuff. Heavier and quieter. The load shock additive (talcum powder ?) provides the cushion between gear faces. Works and has worked fine in my 6 speed for many miles. Shifts are quieter. All pluses in my opinion.
FWIW, Redline performed better on my bikes. The cost was minimal, with a private mechanic. My HD FLHXS 1K service costs $20.00 more using Redline.

I should have been more specific. I am already using Red Line lubricants. But our summers in Las Vegas are really hot and appear to be getting hotter for longer periods--frequently near or over 110 degrees. Last summer, the engine oil temperature was really hot per my dipstick temp gauge. I am hoping a heavier weight lube in the transmission and engine will hold up better under these very hot conditions. I am OK if I have to change the oils to a lighter weight in the late fall--anything to protect my engine and transmission. Since I change my own fluids, cost to change fluids twice a year isn't excessive.

I'm thinking of switching to to Amsoil 75-140. 540 rat just did some gear oil test and it is the highest wear protection out of anything he has ever tested. Its already in my truck rear end. His highest ATF was mobile 1 multi vehicle. That to is now in my truck trans and I'm thinking of running it in the primary. my Terrain is going to be getting both of those this summer. For some reason the amsoil 75-90 did about half as good as the 75-140. Be great if he tested the red line shock proof but sure that wont happen. the red line products haven't done to good.
He plans to do some air cooled oil pretty soon. I put a suggestion in for quicksilver and he is considering it. Be looking forward to his results so we have some real comparisons on thicker oils. Vr1 20-50 is his top tested 20-50 oil right now.
