Default HD oil cooler is loose?

I'm not sure what keeps the oil cooler tight? Is it just the fact that the filter screws on and holds it?

I saw a gasket kit on another thread that I may need to get because it seems to have been leaking either around the filter area, and also on the threads of one of the hoses. I'm hoping some teflon tape will fix the leak on the hose.

ehhh. and it still leaks. Got the HD replacement gasket. Maybe next oil change I'll try to find a rubber gasket.

I don't know which oil cooler you got, but I just want to mention I had one when I got my Heritage new in 2003- had it dealer installed before I took delivery. Had so many problems with it leaking that they bought it(the cooler) back from me 3 years later, for full retail cost. Mine was the one that installed between the filter and engine, and had a small radiator between the down tubes. I hope you have better luck then me- no gasket would cure it. They said I wasn't the only one.

I installed one on my '06 Lowrider. NO leaks in 2 years yet. Maybe I got lucky.

If it's still leaking you may have a problem with the case. My 2010 FLHTC is in the shop right now having a whole new motor case replaced because it was leaking from the plugs where the cooler goes on. They said it was a problem with the casting of the motor case and they've had a couple with that same problem.

I had the same problem and I just removed mine and sold it off since the dealer would not do anything despite many complaints from me. I did get some scratches on my engine cases for free from the dealer techs....

It might be ok for awhile. It stopped leaking after a few hundred miles. I'm guessing the gasket soaked up some oil and swelled up. We'll see how long that lasts.

And yes, it's the factory looking one like you are describing..
