Folklore! Besides that, Syns are not as "slick" as some animal oils.

Bearing skate? I have heard the synthetic oils are so slik that a roller bearing will skate or slide on shafts instead of roll in the cage, resulting in flat spots on the bearings and damage to shaft ends. I want to get as much life out of my engine as possible, since the harley engine is cramed full of roller bearings. I am not sure i should keep running the the synthetic. Amsoil 20/50 in primary and engine, Amsoil 75/90 in trans. Hope some of you wrenches out there have some good information on this subject.

ABJ

Total BS!

I run Mobile V-Twin in the engine and primary. Mobile Synthetic 75/90 in the trans.

I am reviving this thread, because it is the only one I found on a search for "bearing skate".

I would like to switch to an Indy, and I called a local one. I asked him if he could use Mobil 1, which I used for my last oil change. He said he didn't recommend it, it is too slippery and causes bearing skate, and I should use Amsoil in all 3 holes.

Is he full of it?

Did you bother to read the old posts in this old thread?

The question had already been answered.

I didn't know this was the end all and be all of all oil threads. Why bother replying if you have nothing to add?

Some guys bitch if you revive a thread, and others bitch if you don't do a search. I don't feel bad about reviving this thread at all.

There was nothing to add to this ridiculous question.

The thread was dead, with good reason.

You said you revived this thread because you only got one hit when he googled bearing skate?

Try Harley bearing skate, about a zillion threads already out there, and they all come to the same conclusion.

This is just about the most beat to death myth on any Harley forum.
