Default Got pulled over on Friday..

By one of the state's finest highway patrol...

The alleged infraction occurred on the 10 eastbound freeway in Ontario..The "chipie" asked for my license, registration, and proof of insurance...He also asked who I normally ride with...I told him I normally ride with a couple of LEOs..The "chipie" proceeded to say.."well they are not here to help you".. he said that as I was exiting the HOV lane I touched the yellow line...The next thing I did was kind of stupid...I said.."really"? I told him I cleared it..He then said you know what... I can write up your bike up and down...He said that he write up my blue dot tail lights, my pipes (although baffled), and my apes...I asked my apes? I told him that my apes did not exceed 6 inches above my shoulder...The "chipie" looked me straight and said...I'm going to write you up for the HOV infraction and my non-DOT helmet...

of'course he gave me this long lecture of why we all need to wear DOT skull caps..

and the reason why he didn't write up my bike..he said that he too has some illegal stuff...

There you have it...

That really seems bogus, especially since you see people cut in and out of the HOV lanes wherever they feel like it.Hopefully the judge doesn't lay one of those $341 minimun carpool lane fines on you.I got a non DOT ticket too.It was just a fix it ticket.Took a DOT helmet to the CHP office and got it signed off.Good Luck

hmmmm....that sounds like he was bored and need someone to ticket. The HOV thing is marginal many many bikes split on the yellow lines...including the LEOs...but "touching" it. Give me a break.

The DOT thing well that one is pay the ticket and deal....you know the law.

Was the infraction that you touched the line... or you crossed it?

He wasn't being very nice!

I'll bet ifyou had a pair of head lights like the ones in your avatar with you he would have let you go with a warning...good luck in court bro!

hhmmm.. just got back from a ride this weekend to Holister and after reading this post I have a couple of questions that I hope a Cali rider can answer for me.

1- In Washington motorcycles are allowed into all carpool lanes (even riding solo). Is this NOT the case on all Cali freeways? On one of the freeways (sorry I don't recall which) I saw a smaller sign that indicated motorcycles were ok (perhaps I was on I-5 at the time. But one other time I watched the posted signs and never saw a note about motorcycles. Was I actually lucky to not get busted?

2- Lane Splitting legal or not? We actually did lane split for a couple of miles just north of Holister (not exactly a comfortable feeling I might add) and I had thought it was legal?

Just looking to know for next time!

1 - Yes, motorcycles are allowed in the HOV lane. That is Federal law not state by state and should be legal in all states though some NY areas it's debatabe (there has been a lot of noise in NY)

2 Yes. There is no specific law but in general it is legal if done safely and within reason the leo gets to decide when you are not doing it safely.

Bluerose - Thanks for the quick reply!

Up here in WA we have the signs that tell us that we are ok.. not seeing them made me a bit uneasy (especially after I saw the amount of the fine!)
