Default Intake Clamps 1965 Panhead

1965 Panhead. I am sure this has been asked before but couldn't find anything on a search. Installing a S&S Super E with manifold. I can get the manifold in place with the seals but cannot get the provided clamps past the fins. I watched Pacific Mike video and he rolled the stock manifold straight up with allowed room to get the clamp past the jug fins. I removed the tanks to see if that would help found the seat / head bracket attached to the frame prevents rolling the longer S&S manifold upwards sufficiently to get the clamp installed. The bracket is welded to the frame so I cannot gain anymore headroom. the clamps I took off are the same dimensions as the new S&S clamps. What am I missing?

I can’t get the clamp past the fins in this area.

Pacific Mike rolls the intake upward to provide the room however the S&S manifold is too long and hits the jug upper bracket which is welded to the frame.

You might have to really open the clamps wide. 180 them to what you have in the pic and sneak them in with the manifold from the left side of the bike then wrap them around the spigots towards you.

Thanks, hellonewman. If I understand your suggestion correctly, I believe I have tried that. There is insufficient room for the clamp to be on the manifold or obviously no room to put on the spigot prior to installing the manifold. The one option I came up with today is to bring the clamp band starting at the long leg of the T and wiggle around the fins. I will give that a try in a couple days. Had a small surgery today that has me laid up. Am I the only one that had this problem, if so I am probably doing something wrong.

I think I have a plan just will need to get some help. Hellonewman this may be what you were saying. I will open the clamps up have someone hold them in place against the fins and then slide the manifold into position.

Sorry for bothering everyone with this one.

I was picturing the clamps being tilted in rather than flat on the manifold so they would pass the spigots on the heads. It must be possible somehow, just need to hold your tongue in the right position.

Have a look in the 50 EL thread, the intake has two piece clamps which might be your solution.

Looks like I am going back to linkert. Finally got the intake installed and the carb on. Waiting for parts to change internal throttle cable. Started putting outside oil lines on, they won’t fit behind the carb. Guess I am in over my head.

Make your own lines.

Lets see the clamp side of the intake.
