Question Bendix Boots

I take I need the one on the left. One on the right won't fit a 65 unless it's actual size is smaller.. My 65 had the one on the left..

Best I can tell the one on the left is a 31441-65. The other is 31441-65A. I have a 1940-84 parts catalog, but unfortunately it's in a non searchable pdf to looking for a part number is a "manual" process.

I have a 41-84 pdf that is searchable except that it won't do the hyphens. I can look for 31441 and it sends me right to the page with the solenoid on it. The boot is on page 238 but going to the list of parts it calls out the 65A but the part looks like a 65

Here is a pic of the page.

I also have a printed version of the factory manual 61-71 and it lists the 65 (non A). I suspect that the part has simply been updated to the 65A and suspect that the OD of flange is the same outside diameter as 65 part. The bell part is a little smaller and suspect they made it that way so that any oil hitting the rubber runs down the flange part. The hole in the inner primary does not have much of a ridge and is really not much of a seal.

I converted my pdf to readable and searched for the part number. It only has the 31433-65A part listed, the non A isn't found. And it appears that the part is compatible until 1982.

19 31443-65A STARTER DRIVE GEAR UNIT .. 82 - Classic; 83 to • - FLH-80

Index No. Part Number Part Name Used On
12 31443-65A STARTER DRIVE GEAR UNI 65 to 82 - FL, FLH, FLH-80; 79 to 81 - Classic

Me nether but I saw the one I put on my bike. It goes between the solenoid and inner primary so its sandwiched in place. It's one of those updates that actually works, like the ramjet.

One on the left is gonna require a foam gasket behind the solenoid; the one on the right will not need it since it is molded into the design.

Pans is correct we still see the original one from time to time but on one owner machines only

they sell an o ring but it canters the sol to the inside and it wreaks the pieces from that angle just re install the original an use the foam with the stick on glue that never works — thanks again china
