$5700 for a pan doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. Of course it all depends on the condition and shape it's in. The closer to stock the more valueable. If it's a lot of after market and in need of some major work that could be high. They are getting rare and rare and generally '48 and '65 are commanding more money on the count of them being 1st year and last year, 1st electric start. For $5700 I'd be at least interested in it.
I saw a '48 Pan in my neighborhood yesterday probably as good as you described in other words not good and was asking $20k. Said it was all rebuilt, duno but it was all clean, frame looked like it was all moulded at one time then removed, he said it was all original but said it had a '74 trans (could tell it was newer one). I think a lot of re-pop parts also. It did start about 4th kick cold, sounded OK, no smoke. I look eventhough I'm not buying. $20k - no way.
