Default 55 Panhead Idle Problem

I have a pan that will not idle down after it is warmed up. I have since done a top end, new points, adjusted push rods twice, changed carbs and changed jetting. I noticed the front spark plug is darker than the back and maybe oily. Would worn rings maybe cause it to idle up after warm? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Russ

Check compression on both cyl's cold Then after the motor gets hot check them again See if the compression is within 10% front to back

Default 55 Pan

Cold 90 front, 65 rear
Hot 85 front, 75 rear

More than 10 %, like I said, just did top end, maybe rings?

Could be air intake leak. WD40 works good for this, and simple. With engine running spray WD40 around intake fittings to head and notice if the engine speed changes, usually engine speed will increase RPM. Cheap to do and fast hope all works well. Billy

Done that and put in new o-rings. No difference.

Thanks for the thought.

Did you not do rings/pistons on the top end rebuild ? Did you not hone the cyl walls also ?

Just did valves because the front intake valve was leaking oil into the intake manifold. Should of done it all at once. But would the lower compression on the rear make it take a while for it to idle down? I am lost! Took a similar S&S off another bike and it did the same thing. Still looking for help.

Thanks,
Russ

Check for intake leaks. How high does it idle warm? Did you adjust idle and mixture warm?

It idles good cold. After I ride a little and it warms up it has a hard time idling down. I adjusted the mixture but no change. Took carb apart and blew out all passages. This is a brand new S&S. Lowered float a bit also. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Russ

You are supposed to adjust the idle warm and use the choke to keep it running if need be cold. My bike will barley idle cold and within the first two blocks it idles fine. Im not sure how much knowledge you have so I am just giving you the basics.
