Need some help!!!
Recently picked-up a 51 pan that was converted to 12 volts. All seemed well until this morning. I got on the bike and the starter engaged on what seemed a low battery. No issues I kept it running and went to get it inspected so I can title it as a historical vehicle. Tried to start the vehicle after inspection and starter would not engage, no problem it has back-up, a kick start. Turned over just fine...on my way to get it plated stopped the vehicle got plates, starter still not engaging, but kick works. On my way to work the engine just shuts down as if I turned of the key and coasted in gear.
Starter won't do anything, kick till I am dripping from sweat and nothing, battery has 10.25 volts.....
Can anyone help me with this?
What you need to do is trace out the wires on the e-start. Could be something as simple as the starter button grounding out, or maybe a more complex issue involving one of the e-start primary components (starter motor gone south, weak battery, solenoid gone south, starter relay bad, corroded/ bad wires in the starting system causing increased resistance.
Please post some detailed pics (close up preferred) and let the fun begin.
Some good advice that a local old timer gave me about my bike was if you kick it more than 4 times and it doesn't start then stop and figure out why... you can kick that thing till your leg falls off but it won't start and run right until everything is dialed in.
I've recently noticed that after I ride mine ahwile then shut it down and go to restart, I have to give it full thottle...which tells me it floods easily. I'm assuming you have an alternator with the 12 volt conversion. Did you check that its charging the battery?
Keep posting your progress...there's some real smart cats on this forum who will definately help you solve the issue.
Quickdraw100, thanks for picture and passing on good advice. Beautiful Panhead!! I have kicked mine till I was laying on the ground catching my breath and waiting for feeling to come back into my leg. I now understand the ways of Harley Panheads.

Thing he shoud charge battery and see if he has the same problem. If the battery is draining it is something ibn his charging system.
He hasn't posted since his initial on 6/13. Hopefully he will post up again.
