63 flh
Hello everyone just joined yesterday and the reason for this is I just bought a 63 FLH on a Proxi-bid bankruptcy auction. The bike is incomplete and it needs afew things but it is cosmeticly in good shape I don't know about the mech part yet. I just need to know what years of parts will fit this ole girl.
Well I might as well get to the stupid questions part that all you love so well. It has a glide front end at least I think it is and it has dual discs, the back has a mag with a disc I want to change it over to a spoke wheel but want to keep the disc what yr wheel & hub would fit?. The swing arm has been changed to one that has a rectangle tube mid 70's maybe, I thought they put the pan into a newer frame but after reading some posts on this forum I think it might be the original frame not sure. I read a post by Panz4ever I believe and he was saying on the left side of the headstack there are som
e small numbers these #s are there they start out with B1 would this make it a 63 I hope?
And it also needs a fuel tank what years will fit this bike I kinda like the looks of the Duece tank to start with but Im not sure what I will use.
ON to the mechcanical side of things. It has a Primo belt drive primary but the previous owner took the clutch out of it all that remains is the clutch drum and part of the hub that has the 10 long bolts on it. Other than clutch plates and whatever mechanism Harley used to operate the clutch ,I'm not sure what I need. I know I need to get the service manual and the parts book, I have these coming.
Im wondering where the primary chain oiler is would it be the opening on the inside primary half way between the clutch and the engine drive? Whatever that is it looks like it has a headless bolt (on the engine case) in it I'm wondering if maybe he closed up the oiler, like I said I need the manuals.
It also needs pushrods and the pr tubes can I use adjustable pr's? And are there any aftermarket companies that I should stay away from?
Well enough with the stupid questions for now I'm sure I'll have more when I get it running thanks for bearing with me.

Hello and welcome Mark! Hope you scored the bike at great price, sounds like you will be hitting the swap meets and checking craigslist. I would start going out to local bike nights and talking to some riders of old iron. Good luck, looking forward to pictures!
Thanks for the welcome F2W appreciate it. Yeah you're right I'm going to start hitting the swap meets now. I use to go to swap meets looking for parts for my British bikes now I'm going have to start hitting the Harley meets.
The more I work on this bike and research it the more I think I got a pretty
good deal the bikes pretty clean
it sat in p.o basement in Arizona for 23 yrs. Yesterday I dropped the skid plate and found out my case's are matching and I think it even has the orginal trans so I'm happy about both of these things. Plus it looks like it has a fresh pair of heads on it, well 23yr old fresh heads.
Thanks again for the welcome F2W.

olblue72! I am not trying to be mean. It sounds like you just might be in over your head. If you have the passion you have the solution. Try to find some one in your area that knows about the old bikes. It sounds like you have a nightmare by any standard. Go to this site. One of the best for pans. Good Luck. http://www.hydra-glide.com/index.php

Thanks for the tip Old 96 yeah I'm a member over there, and you're right that is the place to be if you have a Panhead. I disagree 96 I see the bike as not a big deal getting it on the road providing the bottom ends ok. It has a title and its mostly complete so only time will tell and I even have the proper tools a torch , welder and a big bfh thanks again 96.
