Default Removing paint over clearcoat

Hey all,

I am new to the forum, this will be my first "contribution". I'm sure this has been covered before but maybe it will be new to some of you.

I recently purchased a 2006 FLHX from a private seller. The seller had a tribute to his mother who passed away painted on the side cover. Fortunately for me it was over the clear coat. I was a little apprehensive to try using Easy-Off to remove the paint, especially considering I am not in any way, shape, or form a painter or body repairman.

It took a little time and a little bit of elbow grease here and there. I think I needed a total of 4 coats to remove it completely, but I am pretty happy with the results. I think that the paint set into the clear a little bit, so I may need to go back and wetsand and polish. Under artificial light it looks pretty good, but you can see where the paint used to be. I will wait to see it in the sunlight and report back.

Anyone thinking about doing it, go for it. I was nervous that it would mess with the existing paint or clear, or mess with the plastic, but nothing bad at all happened. Good luck!

Maybe a light coat of compound could take any final reminants off?
