Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
You don't need a shift pawl assy. The 01 softail and 02 up on the rest is the best one anyone made.. The Baker is the best for the earlier stuff. If you are having issues, it's like dog clutches in the tranny and bent shift forks.
Unfortunately HD screwed the pooch on the 6 speeds.
If ya need a linkage, the made in USA (SoCal to be specific) then Landmark Mfg has double heim joint, polished SS units. I had 4 on 4 of my bikes. The EVO FXD that had 130K+ miles was just as tight as the new one's on the 2015 & 2016 FXDL's.
Sorry Max I don't understand. Maybe I'm calling it the wrong part. It goes inside to transmission and has the The shift forks on it sticks out the side with a spline which is stripped. I could not find anything by Jim's or Baker for a 2002 fxd. I am going to call j&p and parts Giants tomorrow if they're open. Otherwise Monday I will call Baker and Jim's I will keep you posted thanks.
By the way I was able to find plenty by V twin manufacturing and drag specialties. But I think they're all Chinese made. I want American if possible. At this point I don't mind paying extra for Baker
if they have one. If you're saying oem is the way to go I'll check the dealer

You missed my point. Stock for that year is the best..
In order to replace the shift spline, you have to pull the tranny to get it out.. You might want to try and clean the current one up and simply install a new lever. The main reason for the arm stripping is allowing to run it loose... There are some aftermarket arms that can get additional grip on what's left.
Hi Max. I've already got the inner and outer primary off and all the components out. The shifter shaft lever splines don't look as stripped as the one on the shift lever itself. I've gone this far already. You can take the gear set out on the trap door without removing any of the gears it comes out as a unit. I'm heading to the dealer and JP cycles now in Ormond Beach Florida their night next to each other. My question to you is does
V-Twin manufacturing or drag specialties make quality parts? I will keep you posted thanks for your reply. Here are some close up pictures I know the quality ain't great but you can see splines are stripped worse on the shift lever
I'm moving this thread over to the dyna section because while i have it on the lift I'm also going to be doing front and rear suspension, LED lighting, new rear fender, seat among other things thanks for your support
