Default 2002 fxd shift rod

Can you well the shift lever to the shift rod on a 2002 fxd, or will it damage the seals and other parts of the transmission?

I`ll take a guess here:

The shift lever is loose, and you are looking for a way around doing the job the right way?

yes, BUT, you will regret it!!!!!
the leanest way is to just pin it be it a bolt or pin. best to just replace.
a machine shop can repair it but more costly.

Bustert that was my second option looks like that's the way I'm going to go. I know the correct way to do it is replace the shift rod, but that involves disassembling the whole transmission. So it will be some sharp drill bits nut and bolt maybe tap.T.Y.

You don`t have to disassemble the whole transmission, you just need to pull the gearset out, replace the shift shaft and reinstall the gearset (the gearset stays mounted on the trap door).

The only hard part about pulling the gearset is that some special tools are needed.

Thanks Dan. I'm looking into the race puller and install a tool, the transmission sprocket nut removal tool. Order of business first 10,000 mi service on my 23 lowrider St.Then the 02 Dyna goes on the lift inner and outer primary to come off maybe I'll get lucky and just have to replace the shift lever and the rod will be okay. I'm doing the St first because I live in Florida and ride year-round.T.Y.

Well I finally got around to working on my fxd I've been riding my St. I've decided to fix it right and change the shift pawl assembly. I will be changing the main shaft bearing race to an S&S. I'm also changing the inner primary bearing to an S&S but I saw a made in Japan on it does anybody know if any good ? Or is there a better American made timkens or something
Does S&S make a shifter pawl assembly?
The front shift lever splines are stripped also. I would like to change the whole linkage from the front shift lever all the way to the transmission shifter rod. I have mid controls so the front shifter shaft goes through to primary.
I know Baker makes a shifter pawl that fits but it's a little too much money . Are the v twin and drag specialties any good parts or
I would like to buy this whole thing linkage shift rod and lever splines are stripped on both ends
