ok, i have confirmed that the correct oem part you are asking about 34972-02A is obsolete and no longer available for HD, that being said, from your pix your splined dont look wasted and more ofter then not its the other lever with the internal splines that wear and strip. if you can get a good used one on ebay i would suggest that as the after market stuff is substandard.
as far as a couple of other things to get, Baker has an inner primanry bearing and seal that does NOT require having the press on and off race anymore, they work great i have lots of eperience with them.......you dont have to pull the inner primary if you ever need to pull the gearset again.

The shift shaft is generally hardened. The arm is what takes a ****. Chances are you'll be OK if you can keep the arm tight.. That's how it strpped in the first place. Poor matainence.
