Default BDL Dive Problem

I am building a custom 96 FXR w/new EVO and 5-speed. I have installed a new bolt on BDL drive and having a big tracking problem. I tried spacers, no good. I tried adjusting front mount shackle, no good. Should I try the top shackle. I am at wits end. Bike is just about completed except this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have you done the straight edge thing on the pulleys to make sure they are actually aligned properly?

Yes I think I did it correctly. I think I am going to try loosening all of the front mount bolts and the inner primary bolts to see if I cacock the engine shaft just enough to keep the belt from tracking outboard. Rich

If you have the pulleys correct it should track properly unless some thing is loose ?? O loosed the engine, and trans get it correct and then snug engine and trans down recheck and tighten both. Are you using a one or two piece plate??

If the belt is just tracks to the outside edge of the pully, you are probably OK. If it trying to climb over the the lip you've got problems. Does it hit the edge of one pully first? Check with a straight edge but also check to make sure that the pulleys run in the same plane. You can tell by using a straight edge at top and bottom of the pulley but two verticle straight edges and an eyeball works better. I assume this is a 3 inch open? Bruce

It must be alined In all three plains, I use A 1" wide x about 15"-18" long piece of glass.
Lay It across the top of the pulleys and gentely tap the glass In the middle.
If you can hear It raddle, Its not in alinement.
Loosen things up & check until you have no raddle, then snuge things up, check again.
If still no raddle, tourqe It down.

I had the same problem with the belt trying to track off the front pulley I tried about 5 different thickness shims and it turned out to be I had to use the big thick original spacer about .200 thick and a .010 thick spacer that goes between the compensating sprocket and the alternator rotor >>this is on a enclosed 1-5/8 wide belt been over a year the belt is tracking straight about an 1/8 inch in on the edge of the front pulley>> hope this helps you

I contacted BDL one time and the tech told me to turn the belt around and see if it tracks any better in other words make the letters face in instead of out the tech told me once in a great while the belt is not cut or formed perfectly straight
