Default Primary Noise

2005 Ultra, with 95CI, Full Ported, 26G cams

Guys, had to pull the primary apart, including the inner primary, to change the transmission lever. The splines worn and the lever was loose.

Any case, after putting everything back together, I picked up a noise when starting. Only lasts for approx 2 seconds and sounds like near the primary chain adjuster and/or compensator.

Did not have a bit of noise before I tore down the primary.

Any ideas why I picked up this new noise?

Do you have the HD auto tensioner? If so, some don't like to set the tension correctly without a little finger push to the next click or two. Works out to about 1/4" play in the chain when set correctly.

No auto tensioner. Stock nylon shoe. Did check it and is adjusted okay. I think it may be the inner guts of the compensator. Is it a known issue for these compensators to make noise? It's like something in it continues to spin for a second/two after the engine starts.

could it be the starter? I've had to take em back apart because of the rod before...thoh it's been a long time ago since i did.BTW,I had that very same issue with the stripped shifter, and had to replace the shifter rod as well.it sounds like to me,it might be the starter gear spinning.

Did you refit the starter drive spacer the correct way?
Was the bearing flush?
Counterbore towards starter?
Starter motor bolts tight?
Starter turned freely by hand when refitted?
