Just purchased an Ultra 6 speed for my 97 FatBoy. After installing trans, inner primary, starter, and oil tank. Went to install the shifter linkage and found out it will not go on with the inner primary on the bike. With the stock trans. I could pull it off and on without haveing to take the inner primary off. But with the new Ultra, you must first install the shifter rod before installing the inner primary.

Why didn't Ultra put a letter in the transmission box letting the installer know that.

The inner primary cover must be removed to remove or install the shift lever onto the shifter shaft on the transmission.

At least on every 5 speed Evo transmission I have ever seen.

It`s got nothing to do with the aftermarket transmission company, it is the way Harley designed the machine.

Getnback, don`t feel too bad, you are not the first one to discover this...

I installed a lever at the wrong angle once, and didn`t realize it until the bike was almost back together...
