Unable to Remove Transmission Sprocket
Hi,
Just joined, tried the search, couldn't find what I needed. So... I'm gonna try askin my Q here.
I am trying to remove my transmission pulley to replace to seal behind it, cause it's leaking. It's a 96 wide glide, with the stock pulley on it.
After getting my 1 7/8" socket from here and loosening the nut, I am unable to remove the pulley itself. It looks like it's getting stuck on the clutch shaft itself.
As you can see from the pics, I have the locking plate, and the allen bolts removed and I am unable to simply "slide the pulley off" like the manual states.
The red arrows in the pics indicate the collar/sleeve on the nut that I am referring to. It almost looks like a internal snap ring.
Any suggestions/ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
prplglide

Last time I had a leak behind the sprocket I had a bad bearing. Here is a thread on the mainshaft issues some have had. Page 7 for pics. Hope this isnt in your future!

In the picture, the pulley nut is still installed...you did remove this nut didn`t you?
The arrows are pointing at the threads on the main drive gear, they are what the nut threads onto.
FYI: the pulley mounts onto the main drive gear, there is no part called the clutch shaft.
There are four seals behind the pulley, the big oil seal, the pulley spacer, the quad seal that is underneath the spacer, and the main drive gear/mainshaft seal.
You don`t need to remove the inner primary bearing to get the pulley off, but you will need to remove it if you are going to change the main drive gear/mainshaft seal.
