Excited about doing the ride and hanging out with other Vet's. We'll be staying in Frederick, MD and have pretty much all day Saturday to ride around the area. Anything I need to check out while in Frederick or nearby area? Good spot to eat or drink an adult beverage?
if you like oysters, try hanks oyster bar - some of the best i have had
the air and space museum is pretty interesting, but could be crowded over memorial day
the baltimore aquarium is pretty nice, the observation area is in the middle with the aquarium around you, and the warf there has some really good food
there are areas along the potomac that are really nice
annapolis is an interesting area
as mentioned, gettysburg is great, but plan your day as you can spend a couple of days there
Even closer to Frederick than Gettysburg is Sharpsburg, MD, the site of the Civil War Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single day in American history. Riding around the battlefield is nice, there is a small but adequate visitors center and an observation tower out on the battlefield. Gettysburg requires a full day to do properly. Antietam you can get the gist in an hour or so.
In the small town of Sharpsburg there is a small little historic tavern where bikers congregate called Captain Benders Tavern. Good for a burger or other typical tavern food along with your adult beverage.
I'm riding down for the first time myself. Leaving CT early Friday morning with a large group of fellow LE brothers. Should be an interesting weekend. Hopefully I'm not cripple from all the saddle time.
Ride in on Sunday with a dealership or get to the Pentagon early. The earlier you get there the closer to the front and leaving early . Ride is short but awesome.
