We rode Skyline and the BRP from Front Royal to Cherokee, NC last year. We all agreed that once was enough. We did it over Memorial Day weekend so the traffic was extremely heavy. I think it took us almost 6 hours to ride 110 miles. I wouldn't ride it again but did think it was worth doing it to say I rode it. If you can fit it in as part of another ride consider it but don't plan a trip around it.

 

We did the SLD last weekend and the traffic wasn't bad.
A couple of inconsiderate slowpoke drivers but much better than some previous trips

A couple of deer and one pheasant was the only wildlife that we encountered.

We were on our way to OBX and detoured to visit the Flight 93 Memorial so we spent the night in Front Royal and exited the SLD at Waynesboro and took the freeways so we could make our destination in time for a good night's rest.
