Yeah, watch out for the freaking deer, they are all over the place out there. Careful with your speed in the park, they run radar and will write you a ticket. It can get pretty darn cold out there in October, make sure you bring clothes planning on a little cold weather. Be careful, do not let the nice views distract you. If you want to look, stop. Also, if it has rained hard recently some of the side roads off the parkway get gravel wash over, look out for it. It is beautiful this time of year, enjoy.
Just curious, are you talking about Blue Ridge Mountains = Skyline Drive / or Canyon City, Colorado = Skyline Drive ? I have found that a short 10min break at about 1/2 tank, sure makes the seat feel better at the end of a 12 hour riding day.
Check out Big Meadows on the drive, three days will give you time to go on the Blue
Ridge Parkway, great overlooks on both drive and parkway, yea it can get cool in Oct but still a great time to be had. Watch out for deer, bear and turkey! Speed on drive is 35 mph, parkway 45 mph. I live less than 10 min from both, enjoy...
Don't miss Rt. 211 into Luray- some nice curves going down into the town and back up again.. nice town to jump over and grab a bite to eat and get a few minutes off-saddle..
I did it at end of Oct was one of the coldest wetest rides I ever had. Ice, Deer, Rain, Frost on sheild. Would do it again though if I had time, rode Shyline and the whole BRP that ride. Seen some really scraggly looking deer.
