Skyline Drive
This information is 100 % correct and can be rather scary but then it clears almost as quick around a turn. Expect every kind of weather.
After the BRP Skyline Dr. was a bit of a disappointment for me. 35 MPH speed limit and the views are not nearly as impressive. I'd consider jumping off around Roanoke and riding through the Jefferson,Goe.Washington, and Monongahela National forests.Much more interesting riding than Skyline IMHO
My wife and I really enjoyed the skyline drive. The views are different than the southern end of the BRP, but great in their own way.
I enjoyed the skyline drive and the last 100 southern miles of the brp the most. The middle of the brp got a little boring at times, but I think the whole route is a must ride for anyone.

The Blue Ridge Parkway was made for motorcycles.
Skyline Drive was made for tourists in motorhomes. Watch out for Bambi. Also, watch out for cagers stopping in the middle of the road to look at Bambi. There's plenty of nice roads that you don't have to pay to get on and you don't have to mingle with as many idiots in cars. Lots of riders enjoy the 35 mph, gentle pace. I find it boring and irritating. I also don't like crowds. The BRP seems less populated (although some of the bigger attractions can get very busy, like the Mill).

A Sportster is alot of fun on the BRP

The start of Skyline is ten miles from my front porch so I ride it and the BRP all the time. Two days ago I did a 60 mile lunch run on Skyline and it was clear of cinders. In two hours I saw ten cars, four of them parked and one ranger, not doing radar. Off season it is a rip.
On a weekend in the summer or fall leaf season the traffic can make you nuts. If you do a tour hit Skyline mid-week and very early. I offen hit it at 7am and ride down to Big Meadows for breakfast. That's summer, mid-week. Very few, if any, cars going down and not bad going back. On a weekend you might want to try 522 & 231 between Front Royal and Charlottesville. Very nice horse and wine country. And West Virginia is awesome.
