Default Sturgis 2017

Heading to Sturgis for the 3rd year in a row. We've seen and experienced a lot but have by no means done it all. We will be there Tuesday through Saturday staying in Spearfish this year and are looking for some new things to add to some of our favorites from earlier years. We've rode about all the scenic roads in the hills, devils tower, Hewlett, Alzada, Stonehouse Sallon, Deadwood, and of course a handful of places in Sturgis every year.
Thinking Ellsworth AFB this year andMount Rushmore one evening.
What are some of your favorites?

I like to leave Sturgis and ride thru the Bighorn mountains to Yellowstone. Ride in Thru the east gate of the park. Leave thru the north east exit go to Cooke city and on to beartooth pass. Turn around in Red Lodge and ride the other way. Go down the Cheif Joesph highway to Cody, WY. Ride thru Yellowstone to Jackson Hole to see the Teton mountains.
If you go I-90 to Buffalo, WY stop there and have lunch at the Dash Inn and get the rib plate. They are closed Sunday and Mondays.
As good as riding is in the Black Hills. I like riding Wyoming better.

What about Custer State park?

Custer State park is nice. We've rode through it every year we've been up there.

I should have mentioned we've come into the area though the badlands and will be heading up from Chadron south of there again this year.

If you order the rib plate at The Dash Inn, you better be hungry. Some good eating there.

Check out heavymetal's post about leaving the Sturgis area. I like Sturgis, been going for many years but if you can break away for a few days and head east over the Bighorns at Buffalo, Wyo. and Ten Sleep, then to Cody and up Chief Joseph Hwy. to Beartooth and Red Lodge, Mont., then back to the Black Hills via 14A and 14 to Ranchester, Wyo., you'll add a truly memorable ride for this summer. Seems like you've got the time.

We did a Southern route last year, entered SD from Chadron. If you haven't done it, Wind Cave NP is worth a stop. Call ahead and find out what time the longer tour is and book it in advance.

Sundance, WY for Wyoming Wednesday Burn Out contest is a fun out of town diversion as well. Good luck.
