anyone familiar with the Devils Whip in North Carolina? planning a trip down BRP in june and someone told me we should hit this. From what I have found, it sounds like a pretty tight twisty road not for the faint of heart. We did the Dragon a few years ago, and some of the other roads in the area, but had not heard of this. Is it worth it?
FWIW... I felt the Dragon was overrated. Too many idiots on sport bikes and cars trying to rush through it...spent more time pulling over to let the idiots pass and to enjoy the ride. I thought the Cherhola Parkway was a much nicer ride.....
looking for your input...
Devils whip is a pretty gnarly road. I road it twice last year. Very tight and technical. Running the down hill is a blast. Definitely should be on your list
The Devil's Whip can be done along with the Diamondback for a good challenge as they both come off the BRP and are very close to each other. You wouldn't find it as crowded as the dragon but the elevation changes on both the Diamondback and the Whip will provide a different type of ride challenge. Sorry to hear you caught the dragon on a bad day as it can be a great ride. There are tons of really good rides (assume you rode to the dragon via the Moonshiner 28 or Hellbender, one is simply an extension of the other) and Rocker is right on with the Wayah road. The whip and diamondback are right around Little Switzerland (MM 333-334 on the parkway)) so you can make a nice little loop down 226A-(the diamondback) off the parkway take a right on 226 to 221, follow that about 4 miles and turn right on Tom's Creek road and then right onto Rt 80 ( the Whip) you will come out on the parkway at mile 344 then return to little Switzerland to consider things and have a beverage. Riding it in either direction is good fun. That loop is ~ 44-45 miles so can be done non stop. Again, just one of many good challenging rides with some breathing space in between. Wayah is right near the Robbinsville end of Cherohala Skyway off Rt 19. Good riding down to Highlands from Franklin on 64 then follow 64 E to 215 N. Now I want to ride. New bike is waiting but rain and 35 degrees says no (better than the 10 below earlier this year though :-) )
Just bought the same bike you have. Still at the dealer for the winter having doo dads added. You make any changes? I will check the other forums anyway

I have one of the rarest bikes on the road........its a stock Harley!
what is North Carolina and Virginia weather like in mid-June??? Hot? getting hot? Rainy? What can we expect???
You can start out with jackets in the morning and end up with t-shirts in the afternoon. You can look for it to cool down quickly once the sun sets. Rain is possible anytime.
