In August I will be riding US2 from St. Ignace Michigan to Glacier National Park. Does anyone have any suggestions for side trips, things to see, places to stay for a day or two? Thanks.

 

We are leaving next Saturday for exactly the same trip. See the post "Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Montana " I received a lot of good info from a few forum members. I will post some pictures when we return around July 16th.

If you have the time swing through Itasca state park in MN, it is the headwaters of the Mississippi, small enough to jump across. When you leave there ride Hwy. 113 west to Wauban MN then turn North back to US 2.

 

I can tell you about US 2 in Montana.

One cool side trip is south of Chinook, MT to the Bear Paw battlefield and Chief Joseph Monument. There's also Fort Peck reservoir in case after all those miles in eastern Montana you just want to see some water.

 

I forgot to mention that when you get to Devils Lake ND take HWY. 20 south across the lake, you ride up and over the dike holding back the water and out over the lake then swing over to Minnewauken (sp) then back to HWY 2.
