Hostels
I try to camp as much as possible when I travel on longer trips. Last year I seemed to be able to pick the crappy weather for 90% of my trips so I ended up staying in hotels and motels most nights. For me, this takes some of the fun out of the trip - meeting the locals (and other bikers) adds to the trip and you can't do that as easy in a hotel (people tend to "hide" in their rooms). Using hotels also makes an inexpensive trip expensive in a hurry.
I'm thinking I might try using hostels for my accomodations when the weather sucks. Has anyone used the hostels for their road trips? What has your experience been like?

No I haven't seen the movie(s) - maybe I should rent them to see if they influence me to look into other accomodations. <G> The hostel in Waterton, Alberta is actually more like a 3 star hotel with an indoor swimming pool. I'm thinking these types of hostels would be my first choice, not the ones that, I suspect, the movies portray.
I have stayed in hostels in the past while riding (pedal bike) between Jasper and Banff. One of the hostels had a hot tub (bathtub sitting on a rock pile that you filled with a bucket and built a fire under - No thanks) and a sauna. Some Danish chicks were staying there at the same time and they helped improve the sauna experience - if you know what I mean.
