Seeking advice and ideas about favorite roads to ride in West Virginia. Planning a trip there in July Have looked at areas in the middle east side of the state. Will be riding there from Souteast Tennessee. Any input from residents of West Virginia? What are the most scenic highways in the state?

219, 39, 33, 92, 250, 66, 150,15 and 20 are all good for starters. Let me know where you want to start from and what you want to see and I can give some more specific routes.

Planning ride for late July. High elevations may be a little cooler than the flat lands down here. Will be starting from Cleveland TN headed northeast thru Morristown TN then north into KY and then east into WV. New River Gorge is on the list. Have been looking on Google Earth at other roads, including Highland Scenic Highway 55. These other roads may be south of there. Thats ok, looks like any road in the area is going to be a great road. Looking forward to seeing new territory!!!

Tarbaby, I'm from oh. and ride w.v. often. Our favorite area is Seneca Rocks near the Caanen valley ski area. We like to climb the vertical rocks and just sit on top and enjoy. Also, Spruce **** is closeby. Highest point in w.v. and very strange. All rock and small trees with branches on one side, resembels northern Canada.

Cobalt...LOL

I use to camp there in the late 70's thru 90's
Center pinnacle was there...
Climb the front (no ropes and walk down the back)
Use to camp at the creek until the floods and gas explosion...flood 82? I think

Roads in WVA lets see....
219 up and over, valley road.
220 down the valley
33 the roller coaster east and west
55,39 just all over the place
20..not bad..valleys and river
50, overlooks and sweepers..up and down.
just to name a few..really WVA is a good state all around

Anywhere near Cass, WV is going to be a great ride! Whittaker camp ground is a nice place if your into camping. And of course if you are interested in iron horses google Cass Scenic Railroad. #5 is over 100 years old & still climbing the mountians every day. Sounds like you are going to have a great trip next summer...

Thanks everyone! Looks like some real good suggestions. I have looked at some of these roads on Google Earth and they really look good!! Any points of intrest that you can name would be helpful. I, myself would be happy with a crooked road, but my passenger is intrested at historical sites as well!!! Thanks again in advance! Tarbaby

All of the previous suggestions are good - also add Rt. 60 from Sam Black Church to Gauley Bridge

All good, might check out SR93 and 32 from Davis, WV at Black Water Falls, past Mt. Storm lake and ending up at Rt50 outside of Keyser. Let me know and I'll meet you for lunch in Keyser....LOL

And while your in the Cass area be sure to check out the Green Bank Radio Astronomy Telescope. Free tour, free parking and low cost ice cream.

Watch out for dirt and sand in the corners. All of the roads others have listed are great but running Rt. 39 in the early morning (heading east) with the fog coming off the river is world class ride.

I ride Cass, Green Bank, Rt. 39 at sunrise a few times each year.
