Road Trip
Over a 2-3 week ride you'll need new (or almost new) tires. If you can buy them on the internet and change them yourself, or have someone else mount them reasonably, just put new ones on before you leave. I once made the mistake of just changing only the rear, thinking the front already with 7K would last for a 10 day ride. It didn't. A dealer in Colorado "worked me in" but charged $250 to install the same $100 Dunlop I had sitting at home. Almost worse I lost the better part of a day!

Ive been riding for years but have never done the long solo ride, never over 400 miles anyway. This summer I am headed to the Grand Cayon through Southern Colorado and was trying to find someone to go with me but I am willing to go solo. After reading these post I think I am actually looking forward to going solo. Hitting 50 this year, should be a good present to myself.

I do a lot of solo trips. This is just my thing, it cleans out the mind. I could do what I want when I want and stop when I want. Found out that if you are solo you are more to have another solo rider walk over and talk to you. And you have the tendance to do it more to. You will have a great time because you talk to other people not just the group you went with. Last year I did a total of 25745 miles on the bike last year and I would have to say that 16,000 or so was solo riding. When people ask me about riding solo i tell them Nope Me Myself and I was with me. I always get a big laugh when I say that.
Go for it you will never forget it.
I had my cell phone and credit cards.

Thinking of doing a road trip this summer, maybe 2-3 weeks. I think I would like to go alone so I could go where I want, when I want and do what I want, but was wondering if a solo trip is maybe not a good idea. Been riding a couple years but never a long trip. I'd appreciate your expert opinions either way.

It reads like a novel you dont want to put down. Very good stories and pics and also a great route. Enjoy.

My wife lets me take a 9 day road trip every summer. I am equipped for camping so I head out for 2-3 days on the road and 4-5 nights at a National Park (Portland OR to Glacier, Yellowstone and Yosemite). I really like the solo camping, touring and riding. I have never had an incident or concern or bad stories. I target backroads and indirect routes. Nothin like it.

Did a 4500 mile trip last almost all sol except for about 800 miles, which was with my brother that I wouldn't trade the ride for. As most say it really becomes a pleasurable experience riding by ones self. You pick the speed, the stops, etc without the concern of another person. Go for it and enjoy yourself.
