if i'am still kickin, about the beginning of june next year I am planning on taking my first major road trip on my Road King. Know what i'am gonna do? Point the King west and just go. not going to worry about planning any certain route. just ride. We do want to see Yellowstone Park and I want to go to the Tucson area to visit an old Navy buddy, but other than that, just ride and see things. going to take a month or so and just take my time so Linda and I can enjoy it. we've been married for 41 years and have never had a vacation. I think it's time!
That will be a hoot. No specific plans, just go. I'm gonna have to do that sometime. I always plan the exact route for each day and make motel reservations in advance. I've heard that if you stop early enough, around 3:00 - 4:00 in the afternoon, you can usually find lodging even in the high traffic tourist towns.
I think it would make the trip more interesting if you don't have rigid plans like I do. Good luck!

Go to this website and digest as much info there you can. A ton of good info there. www.touringdepot.com
Be prepared for bad weather in early June at Yellowstone. I just got back from a trip through there and got snowed in on June 17th and 18th. They closed all exits from Yellowstone during a snow storm. Beartooth Pass was closed for three days.
thanks for all the info. never thought about snow in june! being a self employed cabinet maker I plan to make the time for this to happen. might head southwest first then up to Yellowstone later in the month. as long as I make the ride I don't care where I go first.
Nice when you can take your time and just explore. Bring gear for 4 seasons if your going to be in any altitude. Ride safe and enjoy what our country as to offer!
We just got back from Jackson Hole, rode from Denver. Personally, I'd say early June for that area is dicey, snow isn't uncommon. We got they July 1st and they had snow the prior week. We LOVED it up there, but if I plan it again I'd go through WY as little as possible to get there. Other than far western WY it's a whole lot of nothing but sage brush. Not that there isn't a certain charm to that, but for hundreds of miles.....there are better landscapes to enjoy. Just my 2˘.
