Default Solo road trip from NYC to ?

Trying to plan a solo road trip from NYC to wherever.

Just seeing if anyone have done it or planned something

UPDATE!!: sorry for not putting much info to start with lol.
I have max two weeks really anytime between April and July..
And this was kind of one of those thing that just hit my mind this morning that I needed to clear my head and reset my life a bit.
Also I'd almost prefer camp most of the trip.
Just trying to draw something up for my own mental health wise.
Meet with local riders and make new friends and kind of thing.

Just trying to get some ideas.

Oh and I'm riding 2010 forty eight.

Thanks fellas

Your question is all pretty vague. But this is how I go about it when I don't have a destination. First get a National Geographic, Adventure Edition Road Atlas. As you look over this atlas you will see thousands of places of interest marked in little red letters. The scenic roads will have little dots alongside them.

On winter evenings go over this atlas with a highlighter. Mark anything you find interesting. Twisty roads, museums, forts, graveyards, anything. Go beyond where you think you might go. Mark up any state, all the states, Canada too.

Why? Because when I go out on a tour I never carry a map of where I want to go, I carry an atlas of where I might end up. And you never know the answer to that until you're home again.

It's really more like this. You have five days off from work. It's hot out there in Mamaroneck, so you go north toward Vermont. There, already in your atlas is 20 places you find interesting and some neat roads to get there. Go, see you in five days. Don't worry about where you end up.

Or, it's still a bit cool this spring, so head south. Oops, still cold on Skyline Drive and the BRP so go south "up the valley" along the Shenandoah River. Much warmer.

How about SE Ohio? Did you ever hear of the triple nickel? Route 555 and it's one of the best roads in the country. Mark that one on your atlas, NOW.

That's how I spend my winter evenings and I have a list of places to go and roads to ride, everywhere. Good luck, how good your rides are is up to you, no one else.

I did that in 1968. At the time I was a high school social studies teacher in NYC and owned a 1967 Suzuki X6 Hustler, a 247cc machine. I had two months to go "wherever". I got on the bike and just headed west. I did not take a road map with me. I figured that between road signs and my knowledge of the geography of the country that I should be able to navigate and I did. I stayed mainly on two lane roads. I made it to California but the bike only got back as far as Ohio. Long story but I actually flew the bike back to NYC for not a lot of money. In those days you could do that. I should have done that ride on a better bike, like what we have now.

So enjoy your ride.

When are you going (time of year)? How far do you wish to travel? How many days/weeks/months do you wish to spend? How far are you from "Acorn Farms" on Mamaroneck Avenue?

I'd head up north through Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, or head south along the Blue Ridge. Not sure what miles you get per tank on the 48.

I could give some specific recommendations for roads, I've done both a few times.

For a shorter trip you could also skoot up to the Adirondacks, or do the Green Mountains in Vermont. Both brilliant rides.

Cheers,
Doc V

This is what i would do with two weeks worth of riding time.....having lived around NYcity...Canada would be appealing.
