Canada question
I went last June and was able to get in with just a NJ DL but I had to talk to a CBP officer which took 15mins. Get a passport and make sure you get a passport card as well so you don't have to carry the actual passport with you
We live in New hampshire, a border state. We go to Canada each year to ride or kayak.
I hace never been hasseled by their BP.
They ask if anyone has a CR. We don't. they let us in so we can buy gas @ $6.00/gl.
Do they actually have access to our records from US ?

I used to live and work outside the country, so I have crossed many borders into many countries. The ONLY times I have ever been treated rudely at a border crossing were when trying to come home to the US.....
Always treated very nice with US Customs. Now Pakistan, Sudan, Eypyt and a few other Muslim countries have always treated us like sh*t. As well as one time with Canada. You would have thought we were degenerates when they ran sacked all the rooms on our ship along with our personal computers. They went through all of them stating they were looking for child ****. They didn't find any, but found 2 guys with DUI's and would not let our ship dock while they were on board. When the agent convinced them that we had millions of dollars in goods, they let the ship dock with an armed guard at the gangway. Another time I was hassled in Vancouver. I hate going into Canada. However 20 years ago I drove into Canada and they were very nice and friendly.
who knows, maybe a trip to Nelson B.C. and East over and down through Bonners Ferry Idaho.
Cheers,
Mark
Enhanced Drivers License. The states of Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington are issuing these enhanced drivers licenses.
Having a DUI shouldn't be cause for not issuing a passport. Canada just doesn't want DUI offenders in their country.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the mode of travel (I've never traveled by ship) or the type of visa you're carrying with your passport. We've traveled to many of the same places, it would seem, in addition to SE Asia, Eastern Europe and half of South America and my experiences have been just the opposite.
Also when getting the pass port forms make sure they are current forms . Went to two different post offices and got non current forms from both . Third time a charm . Also watch out how much tobacco you plan on taking with you .
It's not an arrest that will get you denied entry, but a conviction. I have been arrested in WA (charges dismissed, minor traffic charges from 20 years ago) and never have a problem crossing into the US. What you got arrested for factors into whether or not you get denied entry. And they also want to see if you lie about it.
