Border security and increased scrutiny are realities of the modern world. The current level of enforcement by Canada Customs was forced on us by US dept of Homeland Security, including the need for passports and deep background checks.

There was a lot of opposition to the new Border rules in Canada, but the Us Gov. Said we were going to follow the US made up rules, or Canadians would not be able to enter the US ( they actually said that).

If you get hassled at the border, you have GW to thank. Or it could be your own fault.

Yep, they could absolutely deny you entry.

I had one 20 years ago, and the same applies to me.

A school teacher had one over 24 years ago and they denied her entry.

Why go through all the BS to get there only to be turned down entry at the border? I'll keep my greenbacks in this country, Thanks!!

I will not go to their uptight country, eh?

I would really like to see the band the Tragically Hip, as they rarely if ever play anywhere else but in their country. Their $$$ loss I guess.

Do you mean you will need this if you have had a DWI?

Shame there are some bad feelings out there and some bad experiences, but again the reality of 911 world and YES it is True, US Govt demanded increased scrutiny and security at US/ CDN border by CDN officials. There were concerns by US Govt' that terrorists would try and enter US via Canada, vice direct entry. Border has long history and remains a non-military defended border (think longest in the world), and YES CDN border guards only recently began carrying firearms (incident out west in Vancouver, where border run by armed criminals highlighted unarmed CDN border guards over their US Brethren. Bottomline it is John Q Society on both sides who pays the price for the restrictions placed upon each side of the border to work toward public security. Yes the US and CDN Govts and law enforcement share information , hell even the IRS and Revenue Canada share information. Seems a shame that regular folks get caught in this kind of stuff, but that is the reality of our world, and simply put there is no going back 20 years. I have had the benefit of serving in both nations for defence, and I assure you that both nations don't always agree but we do respect each other and we do often work together. For what it is worth...

No. It has nothing to do with any DUI's or any other infractions you may have.

I was also told (by a HDF expert) that I needed to have the proof of insurance card if I crossed the border, so I went and got one. It is only valid for a certain period. In the time that I had it and crossed the border I was never asked to produce it. I have crossed the border at least once a year since 2006 without having the insurance card and have never been asked to produce it.

I believe that they do. But even if they don't they can certainly find out if they want to. See above.

It's not an arrest that will get you denied entry, but a conviction. I have been arrested in WA (charges dismissed, minor traffic charges from 20 years ago) and never have a problem crossing into the US. What you got arrested for factors into whether or not you get denied entry. And they also want to see if you lie about it.
All true! Did the Interpol search, ect. Getting into the US a bit harder. US ask very good questions to throw you off(if you lie). Answer honest your back home.

This thread has been up for nearly 30 hours now and doing well with 57 replies in the Touring section. Now the nimrods decide to move it to another section where it will probably die a slow death while they leave a thread on Blow Driers for grown up bikes alone. Nice work. End of rant.

Oh, BTW, will the blow drier for the bike make my hair frizzy?

ok i gotta chime in here. Yes u need a passport, yea ur prolly not gettin in if your a serious criminal. That said i have NEVER heard of an issue with DUI"S i have a riding bud who crosses regularly and its never been an issue, hell i go across over 30 times a year and never been asked! They may ask if you've ever been convicted of anything or i've even heard them say have you been charged. none of their business if you've been charged just say no, as for convicted we always say no. if you get hauled in and they run you thru the whole process ya your prolly gettin caught, so they send you back end of story. But to volunteer the info no way dont do it!!! Show up at the crossing, turn the bike off, be polite have your paperwork together, take off sun glasses....common sense stuff. It really isnt as bad as most of you guys on here are makin it out to be. Theres lots of great riding and fun over here dont stay away because of rumors!!! Teflon

Pay close attention here, Folks.

Maybe even print these instructions and carry them with you on your next trip to Canada, as this is exactly what you don't want to do, ever.

Jesus, I love the Internet.............
