Years ago I used to be an Independent Trucker, and at one point used to go to alot of small towns out in the middle of now where and a Rand Mcnally wasn't real detailed ,some of the real small towns and small roads like county roads weren't shown or listed and if they were shown there was no road number to tell what they were, but I carried a another map that showed everything and I was thinking it was a AAA map. It would show Cty rd. numbers and stuff like that does anybody know if that was it or what other maps are really detailed?
For many years, Rich67 I used DeLorme Maps to find the jeep trails to the small trout streams in New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas, etc. The Topo maps have really good detail all the way down to the forestry service roads. The only draw backs are that they are large and they ain't cheap. Just about any bookstore has them.
LOL at small towns in the middle of nowhere. That's where I've seen you, I live in one of those.
If you stop at a Road Ranger gas station I'm pretty sure they sell the Illinois Topo atlas. I've also heard that Wal-mart carries them in the sporting goods section.
I always carry mine on my bike, paper maps are so much better than GPS, etc.
