Default Do I really need to upgrade my cam

Hello

I own a 2015 CVO Street Glide and was thinking about upgrading my cam

Been a 110" motor the only mods I have done are a Replacement K&N Air Filter and a V&H Power Duals with the Monster Rounds exhausts I was thinking about upgrading my cam to a S&S 551 or Woods tw222 cams

I riding style is between 2000rpm to 3500rpm, if thus helps

Is it really worth the costs

Would I really Benefit from a cam upgrade or would I better off with just a good Dyno Tune with the standard SE 255 cam

Any advise would be appreciated

Cheers Darren

What is your budget? What do you want to accomplish? Yep a cam change can make a huge difference. Pull up the Fuelmoto web site and scroll down to "dyno charts" at bottom left side of webpage. I have really no idea about how to build an engine, but what I have learned is that the optimal build is one that is discussed and agreed upon with professional engine builders.

For example, your exhaust system may rob you of low end torque. Look at the charts and see what you want.

Just now realized that you live in Australia. This may prevent you from driving to Little Chute or New York

I don't think I've ever regretted doing a cam change but I've also did all the work myself so it never cost me much money.

In hindsight these bikes are powerful enough and get up to speed pretty quickly with a stock cam, from what I understand the newer ones (2014 up) have a better stock cam than my 2013.

OP if you have money to burn try it, if not a good tune with a richer mixture would do wonders for your bike without having to spend all that cash.

Just my 2 cents.

Default 110 Cam upgrade

I changed my stock cam in the 2013 CVO Ultra and had great results. The local Harley shop put a 259 cam in as well as a larger throttle body and a screamin eagle tuner. Out of the $2600 I got 101 hp and 116 torque. It made a huge difference in the idle sound and the ridability. I love mine.

IMHO thats right in the sweet spot of the 255 you have now. I suggest a good tune and you might be surprised

I would agree that a good tune from a reputable tuner maybe all you need as you're riding style is well suited for the SE255 cam. A proper tune will wake it up.

Do you need to upgrade cams? Absolutely not. Want to upgrade? That's a whole different discussion.

Hey Darren! As a tuner I can say with confidence if you have access to a qualified tuner he will make your bike run great WITH the SE255, which is a great bottom end cam for big, heavy bikes...just need a good, quality tune!

Good tune like these guys have said...made a huge difference in my cvo. Not just a boost in power but it started easier, ran cooler and the throttle response was so much better. The 255s are hard to beat down low...right where you like it. The cvos came with valve springs that have a lot of pressure and that is hard on the lifters. Harley's lifters are junk so at around 20k or so have them changed to an aftermarket brand from an established ,trusted company. Change the inner cam bearings while you're at it and ride it.

And beware of the lifter-roller axle destroying valve springs that HD used in those, from Competion Cams.
Triple spring with a hellish surge.
