Default Motor mounts...

I'm building a 1983 FXWG that I acquired in a state of disassembly so I need to ask a lot of questions.

I noticed that a motor mounting kit is available:
Amazon Amazon

My plan of attack on mounting the motor had been to set it in the frame, figure out what size bolts I need, get that in Grade 8 and torque accordingly. I'm still trying to get used to the idea of an engine bolting directly to the frame without some rubber apparatus.

Should I be spending money on a kit? or just do what I had been planning on?

If you want chrome buy that, if not go to store and match what you have, also I recommend grade 5 silver color..grade 8 is overkill and a gold color...and you should check the front to see if it need shims...

I would spend a little more and get the cadmium plated hardware (or parkerized). Those chrome bolts tend to rust.
