Default Front Motor Mount Bolts

Recieved a box of parts today so now things are going back together. Got the motor back in the frame and was bolting it all up with the Colony front motor mount bolt kit I recieved today in my goodie box and have a question. I have 4 thicker washers that are grooved on one side and smooth on the other. So where do they go? I sounds crazy but nothing seems to fit. I am sure the frame is pulled togther some. The bolts I am replacing didnt have any of the factory washers are anything so I am just not sure how the bolts supposed to be installed.

Thanks for any help.

What is the year of your bike? Is it '78 as indicated by your forum name? If so then they are possibly not used. They are not used on my 1978, but were used on my 1980 - i do not know what other years for sure, but probably 1979 thru 1981 and any other Cafe Racer frame years.

The engine mount bolts on the 1980 go right thru the frame tubes from one side to the other - one long bolt rather than the two short ones on my 1978. There is a removeable steel tube between the frame tubes that the bolt passes thru. This adds rigidity to the frame. Those washers go between this tube and the frame downtube, on the right side, front.

Well, if you decide you need them (I think you do) here is the parts breakdown.
The washers are #33 and there are (6) of them.

Three of them are used on the outside of the left motor plate.

Two of them go inside the frame tubes at the far end of the spacers.

One of them goes outside the right hand motor plate on the bottom bolt next to the crankcase.

Hey PG, thanx for this. The error on my part was asuming that what was on my '78 when i got it was correct. I should know better! So i should have the two spacers 16230-52, the special washers 16218-52, and the long bolts that go right thru? I'll have to obtain these. Thanx again.

As far as I know Mick, that is correct.
These washers get misplaced very easily and sometimes where they are to be placed becomes a bit of a question.
But as I said, three go on the left outside plate, two on the front bolts/spacers and the last one goes on the outside right plate on the lower bolt.......... near the engine.

Looking at the parts catalogs more closely,
1954 to 1976 have 5
1977 to 1981 have 6
1982 to 1985 have 7

Finding exactly where they are and where the differences are in the schematics is beyond my interest, and my ability to focus these old eyes, this close to bedtime. In any case, now i have this project for my bike so i will sort it out for 1978.

Boy, I am proud of myself when I can add something to what Pinion says! Don't know about what you can get today, but the earlier washers are very hard and crack easily, when I took the motor out of the frame on my 1970 when it was a year old two of them were cracked I went to my HD dealer and got some ( to have chromed),I asked him if he sold very many of them he said " no I don't, but there are many cracked ones going down the road". "people find them like you did if they work on their own stuff".
