Default LMAO about this seal!

How the hell did he even drive this thing in? Or is this in correctly? I know JP sells a sprocket shaft seal and snap ring. I didn't see any snap ring in here.

yea Harley was having issues with primary and engine oil blending so they turned the seal around mid 90s I believe

2 things - 1 its a double lip seal BUT you always see oil leaking out of them like a timing chain seal on a car out the front so yea that might be a good idea

2 but the issue was not the seal its was the sprocket shaft forged in the block race that was coming loose on many blocks that the oil issue was about

you can re install it that way and NO they were never sir clipped in like a knuckle and early pan

Can i reinstall it like a normal seal? That seems way-on easier.

Some primary belt drives used to recommend installing the seal that way.

on a good motor never seen a difference what way its installed - the correct tool we use has no issues with the install, but it is easier flat side out with out, but use a big washer and a spacer so it goes straight - the thread can be used as well and a spacer / washer to pull it in just flat no need to push it in more, at one point the seals race will bottom before the seal is home just go easy then tap it in place

the thread on the sprocket shaft its self you can use it to pull the seal mostly in, then tap it the rest of the way when it bottoms on the spacer for the seal
