Well the chain is close. They say an inch is as good as a mile as long as it doesn't hit.....

Ill have to investigate actual tire widths to know if I need to get more creative. I was planning on running Metzeler 888's which Im sure many touring bikes are running so Ill do some research.

Michelin Commander II is the preferred tire for touring, my opinion.

Yeh that is close, but take heart if you run it that way, the chain will make the room it needs, removing the tire as it goes. Sarcasm sprinkled with some truth. It will only rub for the first ten miles.

I was looking at the michelin and dunlop as well, both nice looking tires and I doubt (and hope) any of the choices out there are crap. I really wish I could get a vintage looking tire in a 180. Im assuming the hoosier slicks I see on bobbers are car tires?

I guess I could run a variation of this chain block

I ran Dunlops for over 20 years, then I tried a Michelin from a recommendation from a friend and this forum. The sky opened, the clouds parted and the sun shined down on my bike!!! They were that much better then the Dunlops, in all conditions.

I have a 240 wide tire kit that I am running a 250 tire on...I would need a feeler gauge to check the chain clearance...never had a problem.

Sounds like a good enough review for me!

Thanks

Excellent thank you! Ill have to figure out a chain guard to keep some of the lube off surrounding bike parts.

Before I bore the housings open and bush them like they should’ve been from the factory, does anyone offer a kit for the calliper pin problem?

Anyone know now what the rotors are made of, besides steel....they aren’t rusty, don’t appear plated and are ferrous.

Sending the original hardware out for plating in clear cad. Some stuff looked zinc but today’s clear zinc doesn’t last like it did back then. I think it’s important to retain the correct hardware even though this isn’t a resto for a judged event.

I'd like to know about a caliper kit too, or what you plan to use as a bushing.

Rotors are usually some kind of stainless - harder than heck to drill/machine too.

And if you can get an o-ring chain to fit you won't have lube spraying all over.
