Default Timing plug thread size

What's the thread size for the timing plug? The stock cad plated one threads in and out smoothly and case threads look good. Got a new Colony chrome plug and it starts then gets hard to turn, threads look good. Don't want to garf any threads, so would like to clean the case threads and run a die on the new Colony plug.

Gotts watch the chrome build up on those fancy plugs, sometimes it's too thick and will gall the threads. I lost one that way, had to oversize the hole.

Can't remember the size off hand sorry.

yep 5/8 X 18 is the thread

we cut a new tap off deep so we can clean the short block thread with grease on it ( two car garage green grease ) for tiny chips

Thank you, went out to the tool box thinking "I have that size". No such luck, have 5/8 X 11. So off to the hardware emporium tomorrow.

as mentioned, I would bet your problem is with the chrome on the new plug … you will need to run a die over it to cut the excess chrome build up
