Default Cam Question

Hello,
I want to install an Andrews A2 cam in my 81 shovel
this engine just had crank shaft, pinion shaft and sprocket shaft all replaced. new cylinders and new weisco 9.5:1 comp pistons.

Would there be any concerns or specific things I need to check or modify for this cam?

Hydrolic lifters being used.

I never heard this engine run in its old state, but who ever had was running an Andrew's EV3 cam....weird

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
cheers!

I like the EV3... But, Never in a Shovelhead...Maybe the PO decided it was a Shovelution???
OK cheap shot..
I think the A2 is probably a Good cam.. I believe that may be the old 2 Grind.. so you may be a bit Over compression...
With that combination I would put an AB Cam an Have some Fun... what I did... @ JohnJZJZ know if the "A2" cam is OK with a Real (measured) 9:1 compression..

1981 heads require modifications to the valve guides if not done already. My bestie Kees had an A2 in an 81 motor and it ate the valve stem oil seals and buggered the guides. We had new, shortened, guides fitted and now everything is puppies and kittens.

The issue i see is - > if it was shovelution then the rocker arms are 1.5 and not 1.43

ok lobe lift on the A2 is .315 X 1.43 rocker arm ratio = 450.45 lift

lobe lift A2 is .315 X 1.5 rocker ratio = 472.5 lift < now who ever did the heads do you know what they did

most evo driver cams have around 300 lobe lift and the shovel conversion rocker at 1.5 would have netted you .450 lift

if the engine is together then its a guess if it ends up being ok and more money if not

The A2 is a great cam. In my 79 with same wisco pistons it feels like a stock cam until the revs climb (no tach but maybe 3500?) and then my clutch started slipping, where it didn't before. Got to look into that clutch because when I tightened the spring nuts it became hard to find neutral. I did have to change springs and retainers to get enough clearance for the lift.

I don't believe I would do that either... Check Rocker Ratio at Least!!! Who Knows what is in there???
If Stock Shovel...you could Easily run into Clearance Problems with an AB.. Bad JuJu

If ya got 81 heads then you must not assume any cam is a bolt-in....you will need to modify the valve guides.
