Default SnS Super E

If my carb has an air cleaner, which it does, shouldn't this screw be removed to allow air flow??

The screw shown in the mirror should be removed if the carb has an air cleaner right!?

Good to know. Thank you. I'm trying to narrow down possible reasons for my bike starting but running poorly. It dies when you give it throttle and when at idle it sounds like a shotgun party....

Intake or throttle shaft leak??
Or...Most all carb problems are actually something Else!! Backfires just sitting there idling....Battery Voltage???

The carb is new but I did not install it. I haven't gotten around to looking at the plugs but I was told that they would foul out and need to be replaced every 500 miles. Ill look at them when i get home this afternoon.

I'll need to research intake and throttle shaft leaks. I don't know anything about working on motorcycles so im going to have to learn as i go. I asked a couple of local shops if theyd help diagnos the problem but they "don't work on old bikes"
I took the points cover off yesterday as well and it did look gunky. Not saying that is the issue but it could be part of it maybe? I don't know.

I guessing you’ll find the plugs black. First, if so, replace them with a plain old copper plug. Then turn the accelerator adjustment screw all the way in and back it off 1 turn. It’s in the front of the carb opposite the idle screw.
Most likely you’ll need to re-jet it but this will probably help. Ride it a few miles and get it warmed up.
Turn the mixture screw in till the idle slows down and back it out till it smooths out and back out another 1/8-1/4 turn.
Make sure the points are clean and the gap is right, 0.018”-0.019”. A match book is close enough for diagnosis purposes.
And the choke is either on or off, no in between or it will flood itself.

if that seems a but daunting and you need some visuals......type into youtube S&S super E and G carburetor basic set up...its by S&S.........then check out their video on installation...................................... ........OK so i have just seen your bike in the pictures section
number one when asking questions here is to tell us exactly what you have ..IE: year and model what type of mods there are as in exhaust , carb etc ..better still post as many pics of your ride with your questions and most importantly no question is a dumb question. There are a lot of guys here with mountains of knowledge and years of experience...... best thing to do is get a copy of the Factory Service Manual ( FSM ) and download a copy of the parts manual from the net ...........looking at your ride your bike has shotgun pipes so this comes into calculations when tuning your carb are they straight through or are they muffled etc ?
